Follow me Cards

These are a series of cards, which form a loop. The idea is that the cards are given out to the class (for older children there is usually enough for one each, for younger children they may need to share), and one child is chosen to ask the question on their card. The rest of the children need to look at the shaded area on their card to see if it contains the answer. If it does they shout out the answer and then read the next question. This continues until the child who asked the first question shouts out their answer, when this has happened all the cards should have been used and the loop has been completed.

This is a nice activity to use within the oral and mental starter. While it may take some time to do when used for the first time, children enjoy being timed so that the class can try and beat their personal best on subsequent occasions.

We have produced some examples for you to use, but it is very easy to make additional sets simply by putting a question on one card and the answer to it in the shaded area on the next card etc. Older children could also be involved in making sets for their class or for younger children. However just one word of warning – do make sure that each answer in a set of follow me cards is different, otherwise you will certainly experience chaos!
